Google Analytics Report Back

Since installing Analytics on the site I’ve been going in and checking the stats each day, mainly to see who is coming to the site, where they’re coming from and how long they’re staying.

It appears that about 40% of the visitors are from South Africa with the rest coming from mainly Europe and then a few from America. Keywords used on Google to find my site are (in order of number of visits) gliffy, Rachel Leigh Cook, “orange couch” +decorate and telkom verify adsl.

There are spikes in my visits everytime I post something new and it appears if I write something about a blog post someone else has made on there sites I get a few more visitors. I’ve only been running analytics for 9 days on the site so obviously its early days and I have been neglecting the site a bit so it doesn’t have the same readership I once had, but it is encouraging to see my readership slowly climb as I post more.

Google Analytics

I’ve enabled Google Analytics on this site in a an effort to see where all my visitors come from and how long they’re sticking around. I’ll post a review in a few weeks time and let everyone know what the results on the testing are, I’m interested to see where all my visitors come from.

As always if something is a little weird with the site please let me know.

Switched the Twitter plugin

twitter_logoI switched the Twitter plugin for this site over lunch, the other one needed to be tweaked too much.

Thanks to @_enzo for letting me know about Twitter Tools a Twitter plugin for WordPress. It does a much better job than the old plugin I was running and saved me from doing lots of customisations to get it working/looking like I wanted.

It’s been a while…

It’s been a while since I last posted anything on this site, guess I’ve been a little busy.

So I’m going to give you a quick run down of what happened in the last 9 Months or so…

  • I met someone, fell madly in love and now have a girlfriend 🙂 her name is Claire.
  • I got my drivers license (finally) and bought my self a car, 2nd VW Polo.
  • I moved into a flat on my own 🙂
  • And a bunch of other things that aren’t really all that important.

So I guess I’m progressing with my “master plan” of trying to get a life. Admittedly it would probably have been a good idea to try and document the whole process online for the world, well those with internet… I have a very small world, could comment on it and share in my joy, pain and excitement.

Anyway I’m now going to try write stuff again… lets see how this goes.

K2 & WordPress 2.2

If you’ve upgraded to WordPress 2.2 and use the latest K2 theme you’ve probably noticed some oddities. On stuff.za.net only the header loaded, a temporary fix was go back to an older version of the K2 theme.

After a quick search I found the cause of the problem, its the Sidebar widgets. Turns out that the code that K2 use for the sidebar widgets and a new feature in WordPress 2.2 are slightly incompatible and this ends up breaking everything. But as usual someone else has got a fix, just took me a few minutes to find and apply.

You need to download and install this plugin which when activated disables K2’s widgets. As usual let me know if things appear broken or don’t work properly.
