Moving

To my loyal fans (fan? Hi mom 🙂 sorry for the lack of updates lately but “real life” has been getting in the way a little. At the moment my wife and I are drowning in boxes as we pack up our lives into +/- 50 boxes and get ready to move to our new home.

Yes that’s right at the end of this week my wife and I are moving into our own place, no more renting… which means finally I’ll be allowed to drill holes in walls, fix creaking doors and re-arrange stupid cupboard designs.

That means that pages of this site are no doubt going to be filled with articles as we DIY our little place into the awesome place we both want. The move also means I’ll have my own little workshop/workbench where I can finally take things apart without fear of leaving sharp things behind on the floor for the wife to step on.

How to destroy Earth

This site lists a very long and detailed list of many ways that you can destroy Earth, Earth being the large planet we’re on and not merely the Eco system on it.

I love the way someone has actually put some thought into this and even worked out the probability of these things happening… admittedly its probably not the best reading for a gloomy, wet, cold Monday morning, that just happens to be my birthday too… but I still enjoyed it.

World Cup fever!

This morning I was awoken by the sound of vuvuzela’s and car horns… at 6am as Cape Town got into the spirit of the soccer world cup.

The FIFA soccer world cup officially starts today, I’m can’t predict who will win the opening game between Mexico and Bafana Bafana (South Africa) but one thing I’m sure of is all we’ll hear is the sound of Vuvuzela’s. Everyone is getting into the spirit of the World Cup, almost every car on the streets as some kind of flag on and all the stores, offices etc have flags, soccer balls and vuvu’s… its incredible.

World Cup Girls

The girls in the office came into work today wearing there soccer gear, thats my wife (Claire) on the left in Blue and Chantelle on the right.

419 Scam

Early this morning I received an SMS that said the following (copied from the sms):

Congratulation !!! You won R1,000,000,00 (one Million Rands), your number was selected among the lucky winners of Chevron World Wide international South Africa lottory bonanza Ticket NO: 0404 Batch No:7777 contact our fiduciary claim agent on this number (0763005305) to claim your prize, or email: chevronpaymentdept@gmail.com. Contact person MR MIKE NKOSI. T&C Apply.

The sms came from the following number +27727262858

I hope that you can all see that its a scam message, I can’t believe the Chevron or any company involved with them would make so many spelling and grammar mistakes and why would they use a @gmail.com address? and why is the contact number a cell phone number and not some kind of call center number?

But just in case it wasn’t a scam, I thought I would send them a quick email… (I had entered a few competitions at the local Caltex service station and Caltex is owned by Chevron.)

What follows below is a copy and paste of the email discussion I had with the “chevronpaymentdept@gmail.com”

Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk Watch

Seiko - Spring Drive Spacewalk WatchI love watches, always have… Strangely I don’t own a lot of them, I only have 2 watches neither of which are particularly fancy. When window shopping in malls I always go and stare (drool) over the various watches in the jewellery shop windows.

Seiko make some very nice watches, some even include slide rules…

This Seiko Spring Drive – Spacewalk was designed to go into space, which I think is pretty cool… the other big advantage is that it actually looks nice.

SEIKO Spring Drive Spacewalk is designed and built for space.
In October 2008, Richard Garriott, the renowned video game designer and adventurer, will become the sixth private space explorer. Richard will conduct his space mission aboard the International Space Station, and during his flight, he intends to conduct a spacewalk, which would make him the first private individual to do so. As steps out into free space, he will be wearing a SEIKO Spring Drive Spacewalk.

Spring is here!

For those of you on this side of the globe its the 1st of September which of course means its spring. I thought you would all love a few pictures of what this lovely spring day looks like outside our office window.

Typical Spring Day

There aren’t any birds chirping because they’re being blown away, no girls have sexy revealing sun dresses on because its about 14deg outside and everyone is wearing raincoats because there is a hint of rain. Somewhere behind those dark grey clouds are mountains, blue skies and sunshine.

So would the DJ’s on the radio please stop going on about how wonderful this spring day is!!! It sucks here in Cape Town 🙁
